Join us for Cambridge's second Balboa and Shag Festival in January 2025. Featuring wonderful teachers, 3 socials, live bands, 3.5 hours of levelled classes and 4 hours of tasters, and all the fast music we can offer to dance away those January blues...

We will have parties on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and two packed days of classes. Building on last year's festival, we wanted to include lots of focused tasters, so you can choose to take classes in just Balboa, just Collegiate Shag, or some of each to really expand your fast dancing repertoire!

The Talent

We're privileged to be joined by four wonderful international teachers for this festival. Each of them dance both Shag and Balboa and are looking forward to sharing their knowledge with you.

And that's not all - we're also joined by an international DJ, 3 live bands, and a phenomenal photographer.

Safer Spaces Policy

We aim to be a welcoming, supportive and friendly organisation and to look after everyone at our festivals. Cambridge Swing Dance is signed up to the S.T.E.P.S code of conduct and related procedures. For more information on this, please read our safer spaces policy:

Venue

The weekend will be held at Storey's Field Centre in Eddington on the outskirts of Cambridge. There is free parking in the local park and ride facility, and buses go there regularly from the station and city centre.

Tickets

Tickets went on sale at 7pm on the 4th October. Class passes will cost £125, and social passes will cost £55. If your desired ticket is sold out please fill out this form to add yourself to the waiting list.

We believe that everyone should have access to opportunities to dance and learn, no matter your financial situation. To that end, we are offering some discounted passes to this event for those who otherwise would be unable to afford to attend. The code is published on the ticket purchasing page. Please email welfare@cambridgeswingdance.com with any questions on these passes.

Class levels

You can purchase a pass that includes access to either Balboa or Collegiate Shag classes, available at two levels. All classes will be aimed at challenging you and developing you as dancers. Additionally, you will be able to join open-level tasters (in either dance) as you like. There will be 3.5 hours of levelled classes, and 4 hours of tasters to join. All class passes will grant you access to our parties.

Please note this festival is not suitable for beginners in either dance, and you will be expected to know your basic footworks and dance comfortably for a full song.

EXCITED

You've been dancing this dance for a year or two, with regular classes and social dancing at least once a week. You might have attended some weekend workshops and even a festival or two in this dance. You're excited when hearing a fast song come on, but the top tempos still feel a bit out of reach. You want to develop your fluency, connection, musicality and efficiency in this dance.

Obsessed

You've been dancing this dance for at least 2 years, regularly social dancing and practicing at home or in small group settings. You have attended at least 3 festivals focused on fast dancing, including international festivals, and are happy dancing most of the evening in this dance. When a fast song comes on, you're one of the first on the dancefloor. You are undaunted by any tempo, and confident dancing with any partner in this dance. You are putting in musical breaks and playing with rhythms, and are developing your own styling and moves.
