Save the Fast Dance: Level descriptions
Class levels
You can purchase a pass for either Balboa or Collegiate Shag classes, each offered at two levels (excited or obsessed). Our main track classes are designed to challenge you and support your growth as a dancer. In addition, you’ll be free to explore open-level tasters in both dances.
The weekend includes
-
3.5 hours of main track classes
-
3 hours of open-level themed classes (on Sunday)
-
2 hours of beginner-friendly tasters (before the evening socials - also open to party pass holders!)
All class passes also include entry to our evening parties.
Please note that this festival isn’t designed for complete beginners. To get the most out of the classes, you should already feel comfortable with your basic footwork and able to enjoy dancing through a full song at various tempos.
EXCITED
You’ve been dancing this style for a year or two, taking regular classes and social dancing at least once a week. You may have joined a few weekend workshops and perhaps even a festival or two. When a fast song comes on, you get excited - though the very top tempos still feel just out of reach. You’re eager to build fluency, connection, musicality, and efficiency in your dancing.
Obsessed
You’ve been dancing this style for at least two years, with regular social dancing and practice at home or in small groups. You’ve attended at least three festivals focused on fast dancing, including international events, and you’re happy to spend most of the evening on the dancefloor. When a fast song starts, you’re among the first to jump in. No tempo feels too daunting, and you’re confident dancing with any partner. You’re already adding musical breaks, playing with rhythms, and developing your own styling and moves.
