Class details

May 2024: Partnered Charleston with Marius and DorkaThis block will start on 1st May.

  • Beginners: These Lindy Hop classes will be taught in monthly themed blocks with progression throughout the month. If you're a complete beginner, join us from the start of the calendar month, but don't worry if you can't make all the lessons, the teachers will briefly recap the key points from the previous lesson at the start of the next.

  • Intermediates: We expect that you will be comfortable leading or following a social dance, mixing 6 and 8 count basics, comfortable with Charleston in side by side and hand to hand, adding musical breaks, know a tuck turn, bring back, swing out, and circle. You will want to challenge yourself to learn new techniques and moves, receive personalised feedback, be able to reflect on your dancing in different ways. You will have attended beginners classes for at least 6 months, covering multiple different blocks. If you have any questions about whether you’re ready please ask any of our teachers.

After each lesson there's some practice time so you can try out your moves. If you'd like to do more social dancing, don't forget our Tuesday social nights, too (where there may even be a live band).

Shall We Dance?

The topic of the Shall We Dance? courses changes monthly. Sometimes they teach more advanced Lindy Hop, sometimes they allow you to expand your horizons beyond Lindy Hop to other swing dance styles! In previous courses, we've taught Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and Solo Jazz. These courses require pre-booking as the small hall is small.

Timetable

Classes are from 7.30 - 8.30 pm in the smaller hall (on the left as you enter). They'll start promptly, please arrive from 7.15 pm.

PRICE & Booking

Class size will be limited to 24 attendees. The 4 week course costs £30. This is not a drop in class, so you must pay for the full block in advance online. Please make sure in advance that you will be able to attend all dates of the course, refunds are not available for missed sessions.

(If you go to a Shall We Dance? session and then the Lindy Hop Intermediates class at 9 pm in the large hall, you will be still be able to get the discount for doing two classes on one night. Just tell the door volunteer that you need to pay the extra £4 for the Intermediates class.)
