December 2023: lindy hop with Paul Wiilson and Jo Bradley.
Beginners: These Lindy Hop classes will be taught in monthly themed blocks with progression throughout the month. If you're a complete beginner, join us from the start of the calendar month, but don't worry if you can't make all the lessons, the teachers will briefly recap the key points from the previous lesson at the start of the next.
Intermediates: We expect that you will be comfortable leading and following a social dance, mixing 6 and 8 count basics, comfortable with charleston in side by side and hand to hand, adding musical breaks, know a tuck turn, bring back, swing out, and circle. You will want to challenge yourself to learn new techniques and moves, receive personalised feedback, be able to reflect on your dancing in different ways. You will have attended beginners classes for at least 6 months, covering multiple different blocks. If you have any questions about whether you’re ready please ask any of our teachers.
After each lesson there's some social dancing/practice time so you can try out your moves. If you'd like to do more social dancing, don't forget our Tuesday social nights, too (where there may even be a live band).
Shall We Dance?
See below for dates for each course.
Classes are from 7.30 - 8.30 pm in the smaller hall. They'll start promptly, please arrive from 7.15 pm.
4 week courses of Collegiate Shag, Balboa, Lindy Intermediate+ (focused on themes) and Solo Jazz! These courses require pre-booking.
PRICE & Booking
Class size will be limited to 24 attendees. The 4 week course costs £30. This is not a drop in course, so you must pay for the full block in advance online. We may ask you to sign up as a leader or follower. Please make sure in advance that you will be able to attend all dates of the course, refunds are not available for missed sessions.
If you attend the Intermediates class at 9pm on Wednesday you will be still be able to get the discount for doing two classes on one night. Just tell the door volunteer that you need to pay the extra £4 for the Intermediates class.
DECEMBER: SHALL WE SHAG AGAIN?
Get ready for Save The Fast Dance in January with another Collegiate Shag course. We'll expect you to already know the basic steps and be able to move between closed, open, and side-by-side positions.
This course will take place on the 6th, 13th and 20th December. There's no lesson on 27th December.
An Access to Dance coupon code is available, giving a £7 discount for those who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend. Use the ACCESS2SHAG code for that.
The entrance to the venue is via the Centre at St Paul's entrance, on the right of the church as you look at it from Hills Road. If you're late and it's locked, ring the door bell.
There's cycle parking at the front of the church.
Car parking is free on St Paul's Road and Gresham Road from 5 pm. Note that there are some residents only bays which apply until 8 pm further down St Paul's Road.
