Join us this June for a month of fast feet, uplifting music, and high-energy dancing as we dive into the exciting world of collegiate shag, a lively partner dance that emerged during the swing era of the 1930s and is known for its playful feel, quick footwork, and infectious energy. Danced to upbeat jazz and swing music, collegiate shag is all about having fun, connecting with your partner, and letting the music drive your movement. Throughout the course we’ll explore the fundamentals of collegiate shag, starting from the very basics, so no previous shag experience is needed, although we do recommend that you have danced some Lindy Hop previously. Along the way we’ll also build confidence in key partner dancing skills such as lead and follow, rhythm, connection, and musicality, helping you not only learn the steps, but also how to dance naturally and expressively with the music. Lessons are 75 minutes long and begin at 7:30 pm. An Access to Dance coupon code is available, giving a £12 discount for those who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend. Use the ACCESS2DANCE code at the checkout.
