Shall We Jazz Up Your Dancing?
Dorka and Marius will look at how to incorporate vernacular jazz moves into partnered dancing
Details
Dorka and Marius will look at how to incorporate vernacular jazz moves into partnered dancing. Think beyond just your basic break away boogie backs! Solo jazz adds new flavors and textures to your basics, helps you work on your rhythm and as such makes you a better social dancer. Then there is the historical context too. The fact is that in the Black Community, where the dance originated, solo dance ability and all those classic jazz steps were as fundamental to the dance as triple steps. Check out some of these Harlem dancers: https://youtu.be/Y-K9IO3-OW8?si=1dAkdKbPO9z0_inG For this block you need to be at least an intermediate dancer, comfortable with your Lindy hop basics (6 and 8 count and Charleston) and experienced in social dancing. Knowing some key vernacular jazz moves (Suzy Q, shortie George, fishtail, Applejacks etc) will also help you progress faster. An Access to Dance coupon, giving £12 off the price, is available for those would otherwise not be able to afford to attend. Use the ACCESS2JAZZ coupon code for that.
